How did you guys meet?
We met in college through mutual friends. One friend told me for a year that I needed to meet this guy because she thought we’d be great together. It took a year, but finally another friend came to my apartment and brought Graeme with him. We all chatted and then Graeme and I started hanging out and going to concerts. That was that!
What is your wedding going to be like? I know you mentioned it was going to be “outdoor, forest, nature, flowers and herbs.”Is this because of what you guys are studying?
Katherine: I am studying to become a naturopathic doctor at Bastyr and have a special interest in environmental health . Graeme studies air pollution at UW. We are both passionate about how the environment affects our health and therefore our wedding is going to be nature-themed. It will be outdoors, surrounded trees, a pond, hiking trails, and a lavender farm. We are incorporating organic flowers and herbs into our floral arrangements and decorations.
Tell us your proposal story.
Graeme: Katherine woke up to go feed the chickens (yes, we have 5 backyard chickens!) and when she went out there, each chicken was wearing a sign that together read, “will you marry me?”
Of course the chickens were not standing in the right order, but the two with “marry” and “me” were standing next to each other so Katherine quickly figured it out. Graeme then came out and proposed with a ring he made himself! Katherine replied “of course!” Graeme had been planning for a couple of months, working on ring design when Katherine was out of the house. Graeme made breakfast and they excitedly began wedding planning!
Where are you honeymooning?
We are planning to go to Spain and France for our honeymoon, to visit the beaches, tour wine country, see beautiful art, and eat delicious food.
What is the one thing you hope won’t change in your relationship after the wedding?
We hope our Friday night date nights won’t change after we get married!
