Jason and Karyn met in Ohio at dental school. The two first bonded over their love for the great outdoors, specifically hiking and camping, and this became the theme for their Sodo Park wedding last November.
Inspired by our beautiful PNW
Every detail at their Sodo Park wedding was imagined by Karyn and Jason to reflect their love for the Pacific Northwest. Moss, ferns and three branches designed by Bella Rugosa became centerpieces for the tables which are named after the bride and groom’s favorite hikes with descriptions of the trips, while the invitations themselves were laser-etched on wood, wrapped and tied with a cedar leaf. Table place cards & guest favors were etched raw oak rounds by the groom. The wedding party bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres were created by the bride, made out of book pages and different fabrics with theme colors (tan, gray).
While the details were exquisite, my favorite part of the wedding has to be the musical accompaniment to the processional. The wedding party walked down to an acoustic version of “The Book of Love,” sang by Elise LeBlanc, while band members popped up one by one playing an assortment of instruments surrounding the guests mob-flash style.
As if all of this wasn’t cool enough, Karyn’s dog walked down the aisle as the flower girl and the groom’s dog as the ring bearer.
Celebrating all the cultures
While Karyn is Christian-Vietnamese and the groom’s family is Jewish-Caucasian, the wedding ceremony was performed by a close friend who is Muslim-Indian. This multi-cultural celebration also featured an aisle runner calligraphed by Crystal of The Fancy Cat Studio, which decorated the alder altar all the way down the aisle. On it were various love quotes with some Hebrew quotes selected by Jason’s family, while Vietnamese ones were selected by Karyn’s family. This was to symbolize the integration of the two families and cultures.
I cannot think of a better wedding to end my year with, Jason and Karyn. Your Sodo Park wedding was loads of fun and you two are the most authentic in your love for life and each other. Plus, you can throw down some dance moves and rap. It was not just a privilege but so much fun to be your photographer.
Thank you to all the vendors that helped make this happen, especially to John Crozier, my second-shooter!
